Tips to Avoid Damage to Your Goods
- Put largest boxes on the floor with smaller ones stacked on the top.
- Stand furniture on end, such as sofas, mattresses, mirrors or picture frames. Make sure they are upright to avoid breakage.
- Arranging your furniture: If a table doesn’t disassemble, place padding on the floor and put the table on its top with its legs pointing upwards. You can use the space to keep boxes. Stack your chairs seat-to-seat or place them upside down on the table. Also, the space between the legs can be used for small, lightweight items.
- Take advantage of high spaces. Pack lighter and fragile items or boxes on tops of dressers, refrigerators, etc.
- Leave shelving, bookcases and the like assembled to help organize items and fully utilize the height of your unit.

Store Your Valuables With Care
- Store refrigerators and freezers with the door ajar so that air can circulate inside.
- Leave a walkway to the rear of your unit if possible. Place frequently used goods and seasonal items near the door. Valuables should be placed at the rear of your unit.
- Cover furniture with linen or dust covers. Make an inventory list as you pack each box. Number the boxes to match the list.
- Label each box on all sides and top for easy identification from any angle. Label what room they belong to for easy unpacking. Use “codes” for high-value items such as stereos, cameras, and more.
- Leave aisle space, if possible, to get around and easily locate items you may need.
- Keep a copy of your list at your home, office and inside your unit.
